Steers peaked at £1180 for a great Limmy cross steer at 15months from M/s Burn, Grange House and Heifers peaked closely at £1155 from M/s Simpson, Square House.

BORDERWAY DAIRY DAY

July 2

The July Borderway Monthly Dairy Day had one of the best offerings to date with exceptional fresh cows and heifers selling to a top of £2,500. Although the trade was slightly up on the month, dairy cattle prices continue to favour the buyer with a wide choice of milky super uddered animals looking great value for money.

Topping the trade was a very special heifer sired by Stanton Steady. Consigned by WC&J Leek she sold for £2500 and also received £100 prize money from NMR. Also from the same home and sired by Pine-Tree Sid was another very milky heifer selling for £2,200. A quality show of British Friesian milkers and bulling heifers were on offer to top at £1800 for a stylish third calver cow consigned by WP Williamson. Their bulling heifers topped at £850 on a number of occasions to average £795.

In-calf heifer trade was very good value for money with fantastic heifers selling well below their true worth to top at £1600 with an overall average £1436. Similar heifers 12 months ago were selling for approximately £1700.

Darlington Mart had forward at the weekly Prime Stock sale a show of 276 Prime Cattle consisting of 131 Prime Bulls, 46 Steers & 99 Heifers. Prime Sheep were forward with 2015 New season lambs & 380 Cast sheep on offer. 41 Prime Pigs were also presented for auction.

Prime Bulls - The best U grade bulls met a firm demand from all buyers. R Grades slighly harder to place, the yorkshire show may decrease numbers next week, maybe the week to sell

Hexham and Northern Marts at their Scots Gap centre had forward an increased entry of 515 Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep.

A tremendous show of quality lambs were presented throughout and were a great credit to all consignors. While trade was easier on the week it levelled in line with other centres to average 203.7ppkg and £84 per head.

Top honours were shared between Suffolk and Texel sired lambs of considerable weight. Willie Dodd, Saugh House sold Suffolks to £92 and Texels sold to the same price from Foley Bros, Mirlaw House.

A smart and shapely pen of farm assured Texel crosses from Christine Holmes, Molesden Cottage peaked at 215ppkg selling to Ben Gray, Yorkshire. Cast ewes peaked at £91 for a great pen of Texel x Mule ewes from Tim Oliver, East Farm, Great Whittington.

Hopes Auction Co held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 72 Cattle, 29 Bulls, and 1570 Prime Sheep including 207 Ewes.

Cattle met a good trade being similar to last week however bulls were in strong demand and more could have been sold in a buoyant trade. The top price of 218.5p per kg was paid for a British Blue Heifer shown by JG & M Little, Greenhill Farm, Wigton. The top price per head for heifers was £1397.37 for a Limousin shown by AD & A Richardson Ltd, Low Bank End, Appleby.

Steers sold to a top price of 213.5p per kg paid for a Limousin which was shown by JG & M Little, Greenhill Farm, Wigton. Top price of £1445.98 was paid for a Limousin Steer shown by J Dixon & Son, Lesson Hall, Wigton. Bulls sold to 211.5p and was paid to Messrs Hewetson, Scales Hall, Calthwaite which also made the top price per head of £1537.61.

A super showing of 23 dairy cattle attracting a much stronger level of interest with good types and plenty of milk on offer. Top today a strong Holstein Friesian second Calved Cow from Messrs R & A Harrison, Hazel Head giving 37 kg which made £2220. Holstein bred Heifers topping at £2120 for Messrs Brown, Seaville Cote and Friesian to £1800 from Messrs Bowe, Calvo.
