Prime Bulls – One of the largest shows for some time of 142 prime bulls, whereby all classes were very easily sold. Top overall bull was a Blonde from Messrs Gibb of Jubilee Buildings, Newcastle achieving £1337. Top pence per kilo of 188.5p was gained by Messrs Cleasby of Linden House, Penrith with his superb run of Limousin crosses. Black and white bulls were once again out in force and were very easily sold, top price per kilo of 157.5ppk was achieved for a British Friesian from Messrs Bowe of Calvo, Wigton and top overall price per head came from Messrs Fiddler of Barrow Ling, Carlisle achieving £1146 for a Holstein Friesian. Prime Sheep – The weekly sale of prime sheep topped at 228.10p/kg for a Dutch Texel lamb consigned by GW Thornborrow & Sons of Newbiggin Hall Farm which was purchased by Bosomworth of Paisley. Topping at £99.80 were a pen of three Texel x lambs from Messers Pearson of Wavercroft and were purchased by Mr A Dawson on behalf of Harrison Butchers, Wigton. Trade for all classes was dearer than expected, with the overall average being a good 10-15p/kg dearer than many centres last week.

Hopes Auction Co held their weekly sale of Primestock when there was an entry of 83 Cattle, 43 Bulls, and 1720 Prime Sheep including 235 Ewes. Cattle met a wonderful trade given present trading conditions.
The top price of 233.5p per kg was paid for a Limousin Heifer shown by G & T Tyson, East House, Cockermouth. The top price per head for heifers was £1372.20 for a Charolais shown by DA Harrison, The Old Vicarage, Westnewton and purchased by RJ Harrison, Butcher, King Street, Wigton.
Steers sold to a top price of 219.5p per kg for a Limousin shown by Ashburner Ltd, High House, Whitehaven and purchased by MJ Wharton, Wholesale Meats, Wigton. Top price of £1574.93 was paid for a British Blue Steer weighing 759kg shown by RE Miller, West Farm, Aspatria.
All classes of Bulls met a great demand comparing very favourably against other outlets. More are required on a weekly basis. Bulls sold to 215.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Crozier & Langcake, High Moss, Bassenthwaite. The top price per head was £1443.51 paid to Messrs Hewetson, Scales Hall, Penrith. Dairy Bred Bulls topped at 174.5p and £1045.26 for a Holstein from JS Wood & Son, Wragmire Bank, Carlisle.

Commercial lambs trading around 175-185p with the best 230p plus to a top of 325p/kg for Beltex from David Peile, Beech House, Blencogo.
