Jodie Maddison, a hospitality specialist who started her career with Aspers Casino in Newcastle, has been promoted to the head of hospitality.

The varied role includes managing a team of 55 employees and organising parties and events while ensuring all customers enjoy the very best experience on their visit.

Jodie joined the hospitality team in 2005 when she was just 19 and spent five years working as a restaurant waitress and valet before becoming a cashier. She went on to return to a hospitality role, becoming a customer service manager before being promoted to head of hospitality.

In 2010 Jodie scooped the inaugural Employee of The Year award, which honours the performance and commitment from the group’s 1,000-plus staff, winning an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas. Then in 2012 Jodie was runner-up in Aspers’ Leading the Way award which recognises the organisation’s most inspiring leaders.

Jodie said: “Working in a casino means you meet a wide variety of people and I was interested in doing something different to the norm when I first started my career.

“As head of the hospitality department, I am responsible for all the staff and managers in hospitality, as well as looking after the customers who visit our casino.”

Growing the number of events that are staged at Aspers is a key part of Jodie’s job. She said: “There is a large scope to do this because of the facilities we have. We’ve recently hosted wedding receptions, birthday celebrations and are now getting back into the Christmas party season.”

Aspers Newcastle general manager Nigel Hartland said: “Jodie is a real asset here in Newcastle.

“She has shown her commitment to the business with almost a decade’s work with us under her belt, which means her knowledge of Aspers Newcastle is unrivalled. She also has some great ideas for expanding the hospitality side of the business and ensuring all our customers have an absolutely unbeatable experience when they visit.

“We are strong believers in nurturing and rewarding talent and Jodie’s promotion shows just where a career with Aspers can take you if you are capable and ambitious.”

Aspers Casino is located at The Gate, Newcastle, and includes casino gaming, three bars, a restaurant and the largest poker room in Newcastle.
