A former apprentice who rose through the ranks at one of County Durham's best known businesses is providing an inspiration to new starts at the company.
Ross Hodgson, 23, started out at Crafter’s Companion as a business admin apprentice.
Now, as a designer at the craft supplies company, he develops brands, packaging and marketing materials that are sold to millions of consumers across the world.
Hodgson admitted that, before gaining employment at the firm six years ago, he had little by way of “life plan”, but added: “In working for Crafter’s Companion over the past six years, I have learnt not just skill-based knowledge but so many valuable life lessons, which have matured me into a hard-working determined young adult.
“Being around such focused and knowledgeable people has rubbed off on me vastly and I now look over everything I do in life no matter how big or small.
“I can’t even begin to imagine were I would be in life now if it wasn’t for the invaluable knowledge I’ve learnt over the years. For that, I am so thankful for my apprenticeship.”
Crafter’s was established in 2005 by entrepreneur Sara Davies while she was still at university.
At the end of last year, the company took on three new apprentices.
Davies said: “Everyone in our company absolutely loves Ross.
“His energy and enthusiasm coupled with a desire to continually improve is the reason he has gone from an apprentice to our main design lead at Crafter’s Companion. Ross is the blueprint for our apprentices and if any of them can do half the job he’s done with the same level of passion, then we’ll have another star on our hands.”
