Professional services firm EY has promoted corporate tax specialist Craig Cumpson to executive director in its North East office.
His promotion follows the appointments of two senior managers, Matt Sharpe and Paul Hindson, in the firm’s Tax practice in May 2014, as EY continues to expand its 320-strong Newcastle office.
Cumpson, who has 17 years’ experience with EY, advises overseas-owned, private equity-backed and listed mid-market companies in the North East on a range of taxation issues. He specialises in domestic and international tax advisory projects including tax due diligence to support M&A processes and maximising available tax incentives.
A chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, Cumpson is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Simon Whiteside, EY’s head of tax in the North East, said: “Craig has been instrumental in the growth of our tax business in the region over recent years.
“His commitment, understanding of the local corporate market, and strong knowledge of domestic and international taxation will continue to be vital as we target further expansion, both for our tax team and our wider Newcastle office.”
Cumpson added: “With businesses targeting expansion in the recovering economy, efficiently planning for, and managing, their tax positions is critical in unlocking added value in investments.
“I look forward to supporting the ongoing growth of our North East tax team, which is among the strongest of its kind in the region.”
