A smaller show of store cattle which saw trade maintain late high rates.  The sale was topped at £1,120 for a Simmental bullock shown by T&H  Armstrong, West Craigs, Charolais heifers topped at £1,020 also from West Craigs.

Hopes Auction Co Ltd, Wigton, held a special sale of beef breeding cattle and breeding sheep when there was an entry of 48 outfits together with 200 early breeding sheep.

A smaller entry with units in demand but selling at rates lower than the previous sale.

The top price for cattle was £1,950 paid to AW Bell, The Fitz, Aspatria, for a British Blue cow with Limousin bull calf at foot.

Heifers with calves at foot sold to £1,850 paid for a Limousin heifer with heifer Calf from DJ Harrison, Dundraw Farm, Wigton.

Border Livestock Exchange Ltd conducted the auction of vintage farm & garden machinery and the house clearance at Glenburn Greenhill, Selkirk, on behalf of the late William Shiell a keen member of the Borders Vintage Agricultural Association.

On a glorious, red hot summer’s day, a record crowd for a house sale turned out. Bidders from all round the Borders and Northumberland saw a terrific array of vintage and garden machinery.
