2020 Vision - June 2013

In this edition of 2020 Vision we are shouting about what the North East has to offer

As the region's economy emerges from the challenges of the recession, focus is increasingly turning to what the future holds.

In this edition of 2020 Vision we are shouting about what the North East has to offer.

With more than £235m handed over, the North East has a good track record with the Regional Growth Fund. Our regional affairs editor Adrian Pearson looks at the legacy so far.

Next month the Government will reveal the details of the firms winning funding in the fourth round of the fund, with the North East expected to do well again.

But, with the economy still not back to good health, the fund could extend into a fifth round.

Each edition of 2020 Vision has a centre spread full of useful facts about the North East economy, and this time we have worked with the North East Chamber of Commerce to deliver a snapshot of the region’s economy.

Impressive export levels and huge opportunities in the oil and gas industry are just two of the reasons to be positive about the North East’s economic future.

Oil & Gas UK’s operations director Oonagh Werngren also looks at initiatives which will benefit the people and economy of the North East and contribute to sustaining the health and vitality of the UK oil and gas sector for decades to come.

And last, but by no means least, Barbara-Ann King, who leads the department focussed on female clients at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, talks about the commercial power of women as leaders and their relevance in a rapidly changing world.
