Newcastle University

Newcastle University is a public research university that was established in 1834 as School of Medicine and Surgery. Based at Haymarket, Newcastle it became the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1963 following an Act of Parliament. It is currently a member of the Russell Group, an association of intensive UK universities and has a large, recognised EU research portfolio.
