About Ashington

Ashington is a town in south east Northumberland and was once considered the ‘world's largest coal-mining village’. It has a rich coal mining history, which dates back to the 1840s and is told at Woodhorn Museum, a former pit. Many inhabitants have a distinctive dialect known as Pitmatic. The town was home to NUFC legend "Wor Jackie" Milburn.
