Alan Shearer is one of Tyneside's best-known figures. His ten-year stint with Newcastle United began in 1996 and ended with him scoring a record 206 goals. He also appeared for England 63 times, scoring 34 goals. Managing the final games of the 2009 season, Shearer failed to steer Newcastle away from relegation. Today, he is a BBC football pundit.
